Swimming at Royton Hall Primary School
Swimming and water safety is an extremely important part of the PE curriculum at
Royton Hall Primary and another way of helping children to lead healthy and active
lives. Throughout the academic year, all pupils in Year 2 attend weekly swimming
lessons at either Royton or Castleton Swimming Pool. We expect all children to leave Royton Hall Primary having reached the National requirement by the end of Year 6.
Pupils are grouped according to their ability and are taught to:
Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25
metres.
Use a range of strokes effectively for example, front crawl, backstroke and
breaststroke.
Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
