R.E.

R.E. contributes to children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It deepens understanding of: feeling curiosity, ourselves and appreciation of the wonder and mystery of creation. It encourages a positive attitude to the search for meaning and purpose in life

Our Religious Education Curriculum aims:

To enable children to know about and understand the beliefs and practices of the major religions of the world, including Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Hinduism and Islam. The curriculum fulfils the requirements of the syllabus laid down by Oldham Education Authority.

To provide children with opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

To promote respect, sensitivity, and cultural awareness by teaching about the religions represented in the region and the country;

To recognise the inter-relationship between pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and the leading role in which the RE curriculum plays in some of these areas.

To develop the ability of pupils to think about and develop for themselves, beliefs and values by which they can live through studying concepts like celebration, authority, religious belief and lifestyle, and through exploring the fundamental questions of life.

To link and develop the use of Philosophy for Children (P4C) to develop higher level thinking and reasoning within R.E lessons.
