Welcome to Year 5 and Year 6!


Meet the Staff

Our Year 5 teachers are Mrs Bradley in 5B and Mrs Cousins in 5C.

Our Year 6 teachers are Mr. Belfield (UKS2 Leader) in 6B and Mrs Bradley in 6D.

The children in Years 5 and 6 are supported by our teaching assistants Mrs Heald, Mrs Porter, Mrs Swindell, Mrs Absalom and Miss Heathcote

To consolidate their learning in school, children are expected to complete tasks at home.  We appreciate life is really busy and therefore, we keep tasks small to maintain children's focus.  Timings can be flexible to fit in with family life and it is hoped children enjoy building on what they have learnt at school.  Children in UKS2 start to develop their independence when it comes to homework.  

  • Reading  - In UKS2, it is hoped children develop their independence and begin to read more independently at home.  Children learn to pick texts based on their interests and build up their reading stamina for longer novels.  Please support your child in this part of their reading development by asking them about what they are reading and visiting the library regularly to explore a wider range of texts.  To help develop their reading stamina and enjoyment of longer texts, you could read some chapters to them to support their independent reading.  Your child can still earn reading tickets in UKS2 so keep signing their reading record.  A raffle is held every Friday with the prize of a new book for the winning ticket!
  • Times Tables -  Little and often can go a long way here and all we ask is that children complete 5 minutes of Timestables Rock Stars 5 days a week at home.  It might not seem a lot but even this amount of time on a regular basis can have a big impact.
  • Spellings -  Children have a spelling pattern they focus on for a number of weeks.  Some of their weekly spellings explore words with this pattern.  In addition, there are also words from the Year 5/6 Spelling List.  Children are encouraged to not only spell the words given but also learn their meaning and apply the words in oral sentences.  Although, we do not learn spellings to complete a test, we encourage children to use their new vocabulary by applying these words to their writing.
