Welcome to Royton Hall School Council

Pupils vote every year for a new school council representative. Pupils are asked if they would like to apply for the position. They are then asked to give a short speech to peers to explain what qualities they have and why they want to be a representative for their class. Once the class have heard all applicants, the official ballot begins and children vote for the person they feel would do the best job.

What happens at a school council meeting?

The school council meet once every half term with Miss Wood, they discuss ideas on how to make the school an enjoyable place to learn and succeed. They sometimes have a set agenda or bring suggestions from their own class. The chair person leads the meetings, making sure all councillors have a voice and the agenda is met. The secretary takes minutes to record any suggestions and next steps for future projects.

School council meetings are very busy with projects such as; children's surveys, designing posters and writing letters to teachers. In the past they have even been to meet The Mayor of Oldham. They were given the opportunity to ask questions and experience what a real council do!

The school council had received a letter from Mrs Glynn, who is the healthy schools coordinator, asking for their help. Great discussion was had and a survey will be coming soon for your opinion on how to make our school healthier.
