P.E.

At Royton Hall Primary School, we are committed to providing all our children with the opportunity to discover and enhance their physical talents through high-quality physical education and sports. In school, we focus on the development and progression of skills across the year groups in order to equip children with the confidence and ability to compete and enjoy school sports throughout the school year and to lead a healthy lifestyle.

All of our children are provided with one high quality physical education session per week across the year, covering all of the national curriculum strands from Nursery to Year 6. These sessions are delivered by a highly qualified sports coach, provided by the Oldham Athletic Community Trust, with whom we have developed a strong partnership with in recent years.

We also provide all Year 2 children with the opportunity to attend a weekly swimming lesson at our local leisure centre. Year 2 children attend throughout Autumn and Spring, with Year 6 children then attending for the final half term.

In addition to delivering high quality PE sessions to our children, our sports coach is on hand at lunchtimes to lead structured football sessions with children across a range of year groups, promoting competition and inclusion. Furthermore, our sports coach delivers a range of after school clubs throughout the week to children in Key Stage 1 and 2, such as football, dodgeball and multisports.

In addition to high quality PE sessions, we provide the opportunity for children to engage in a wide range of sports by regularly competing in competitions alongside schools in the local area. These sessions are arranged and provided by Oldham Sports Development and cover several sports, such as athletics, archery, swimming, football, dance and orienteering amongst many more.
